From Academia to Entrepreneurship
Session 3: April 18, 2013
Dr. Chi serves as the Chief Technology Officer at Cognionics, Inc. where he directs the development of dry/non-contact ECG and EEG systems. In the past year, his work has resulted in 5 patent applications covering mechanics, electronics and sensor materials. Dr. Chi has a track record of successfully managing research and development projects including serving as the PI on NASA and NIH-funded SBIR projects on dry electrode technology. In addition, Dr.Chi actively consults for university, government and commercial research groups in building portable, high-quality ECG/EEG sensors and systems. He is a graduate of Prof. Gert Cauwenberghs’ research group at UCSD and his Ph.D. thesis represented a fundamental improvement in the state of dry/non-contact biopotential sensors by introducing a custom integrated amplifier front-end that overcame many of the limitations previously encountered in the field. His research has produced numerous peer-reviewed research articles covering aspects of dry and mobile EEG technologies. Besides his work in bioinstrumentation, Dr. Chi is an experienced analog and mixed signal integrated circuits engineer. Prior to his current research, Dr. Chi successfully designed, fabricated and tested a custom high-speed CMOS image sensor and a low-power, high-resolution biomedical analog-to-digital converter.

Dr. Marquet is founder and co-Chair of Althea Technologies, and served as its co-President and CEO for ten years. Dr. Marquet is also founder and co-Chair of Althea Dx, a spin-off of Althea Technologies focusing in companion diagnostics development and Chairman of BIOCOM. Dr. Marquet has over twenty five years of experience in the biotechnology industry in the United States and Europe. She was formerly Executive Director of Pharmaceutical Development at Vical Incorporated, where she patented several novel methods for the production of clinical grade DNA for use in gene therapy and DNA vaccines. Dr. Marquet holds a Ph.D in Biochemical Engineering from INSA/University of Toulouse, France
