This year we participate in a global celebration of chemistry – the International Year of Chemistry (IYC2011)! The year concludes with the third and fourth quarter topics of Materials and Health.  Be informed.  Join us as our speakers discuss resources and exciting upcoming events  that demonstrate the properties of materials and nanomaterials and the relationship between chemistry and health.

Meet Your Experts
Robert de Groot (Southern California) is a co-chair of the Program Development and Promotion subcommittee for the ACS Committee on Community Activities. He is currently a councilor for his local section and he was chair in 2009. Robert has coordinated local section outreach activities in the Central Arizona Section (1996 – 1998) and in Southern California since 1998. He also served on the Committee on Public Relations and Communications. Robert holds an M.A. with an emphasis in chemistry and earth science
 education from Northern Arizona University and a Ph.D. in science education from the University of Southern California.


Tracy Halmi teaches general chemistry and organic chemistry laboratory at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College in Erie, Pennsylvania.  Tracy is heavily involved in chemistry outreach and works at both the local and national level as chairperson of National Chemistry Week.  Her programs have been recognized nationally with four ChemLuminary awards, recognizing excellence in chemistry outreach.  Currently, Tracy serves as the 4th quarter IYC theme team chair and is responsible for leading the development of the materials for Celebrating Chemistry as its relates to nutrition, hygiene, and medicine.

    This sounds like a webinar that would provide useful information for High School Chemistry Teachers. Unfortunately, the presentation is during time in which they are all working.
