Milton was a brilliant student of science. Belinda Beverly was queen of the senior class. Now more than ever before, Milton knew he needed chemistry… What attracts us to each other and what is the role of smell in human communication? Join Dr. George Preti, of the Monell Chemical Senses Center, for a fresh perspective behind the chemical nature and role of human odors!
“Is Love in the Air? Human Pheromones and Axillary Chemistry” A short presentation followed by Q&A with speaker Dr. George Preti, of the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia.
What You Will Learn
- The biogenesis and chemical nature of axillary odors
- Scientific facts about pheromones and human chemical communication
- That the human axillae contains compounds with potential potent pharmacological actions
- And much more…

Meet the Experts
Dr. George Preti received his B.S. in Chemistry from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1966 and his PhD in Organic Chemistry in 1971 from the MIT, with a specialty in Organic Mass Spectrometry with Professor Klaus Biemann. He joined the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia immediately after graduation. Monell, a non-profit research institute, is world leader in multidisciplinary, basic research in olfaction and gustation. Dr. Preti is a Member of Monell and an Adjunct Professor, Department of Dermatology, University of Pennsylvania. For four decades, his research has focused upon the nature, origin and functional significance of human odors: e.g. bioassay-guided approach to the identification of human pheromones, odors diagnostic of human disease, human malodor identification and suppression and examining the “odor-print” of humans.
Dr. Jenifer Smith received her B.S. from Penn. State University and Ph.D. in Physiological Chemistry from the Ohio State University. Dr. Smith has been a Special Agent with the FBI, principal of BioForensic Consulting, LLC, Section Chief of the Intelligence and Analysis Section in the Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Directorate of the FBI. Dr. Smith participated in the Unabomber investigation, the Oklahoma City bombing, and oversaw the collection and analysis of President Clinton’s DNA in the Monica Lewinski investigation. She also was involved in the establishment of the National DNA Database. Dr. Smith is a member of the Director of National Intelligence Biosciences Expert Group and the Biochem 20/20 Science Expert Group.
