Meet Your Experts

Richard Connell received his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Notre Dame in 1989 and was an NIH postdoctoral fellow under Professor E.J. Corey at Harvard. He joined Bayer in 1990 and spend nine years in the West Haven and Wuppertal research labs rising to director of Diabetes and Obesity Chemistry.  He joined Pfizer in 1999 as Director of Cancer Chemistry and took several positions of increasing responsibility including Executive Director of Research operations and more recently, head of External Research Solutions COE. In February, 2011, he moved to Shanghai to help Pfizer establish the Anti-infective research unit.

 

Dr. Harbeson has 25 years experience in medicinal chemistry in both venture-backed start-up and major pharmaceutical companies, including Ensemble Discovery, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Alkermes, Inc., Marion Merrell Dow and Abbott Laboratories. While at Vertex, he was the head of medicinal chemistry and manager of medicinal chemistry outsourcing. Dr. Harbeson is an author or co-author of more than 20 peer-reviewed publications, an inventor on dozens of patents and patent applications. He received his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from Professor Daniel H. Rich and was an NIH NRSA post-doctoral fellow with Professor Richard B. Silverman at Northwestern University.

 

Jos Put studied and completed his PhD  in organic and macromolecular chemistry at the University of Leuven, Belgium. After his PhD he was a research fellow of the National Science Foundation and later a full professor at the University of Hasselt, Belgium. In 1987 he joined DSM where he was involved in all aspects of materials research. : characterization of materials, synthesis of chemicals and polymers and materials processing and properties. At present he is Chief Technology Officer of DSM, responsible for the maintenance and further development of all key technologies of DSM in the Life Sciences and Materials Sciences Field.

 

David Harwell is the Assistant Director for Career Management and Development at ACS.  In his job, he works with chemical professionals throughout their careers.  He is a chemist by training and a career counselor by profession.  Before joining the staff of ACS Dave was a faculty member at the University of Hawaii focusing on silicon nanoparticles and supramolecular structures.
