Several years ago I ran across your skunk scent analysis papers on Google. I downloaded the papers, and I have used the data on the thiols and the S-acyl derivatives (thiolacetates) in my sadly brief lectures on thiol chemistry every year since. I currently teach a class of 540 second semester Organic students, and we will be getting to thiols just the day before your seminar.
Although our paths have not crossed, I earned my degree in organosulfur chemistry with Marvin Carmack at Indiana U in 1970. I was tapped by Koji Nakanishi to go to ICIPE in the summer of 1976, but my wife was diagnosed with what proved to be terminal cancer (colon with mets to the liver), and I had to turn down that career-changing opportunity.
I look forward to joining your seminar a week from Thursday.
